Back in December I was excited to find a WWS report showing a cat druid doing 4900 DPS on Patchwerk. That performance was a real inspiration for me on what cat DPS could do with enough skill and gear. It took me a few months, but I finally got there last night, 4950 DPS. I was doing my own mangles, too. I'm usually off-tanking on Patchwerk so it was fun to do the stand-and-shred thing for once.
Osevin's parse is off WWS now, but I did make a note of his damage profile. Here's how I compare.
1450 avg 40% Melee 32% 1170 avg
7100 avg 27% Shred 37% 6500 avg
15% Rip 11%
11% Rake 13%
6% Mangle -
1% F Bite 8%
The main differences are my gear is better (higher melee damage) and he was able to Shred a lot more. I still don't feel like I manage my energy perfectly, but that profile is pretty typical for me and other ferals I know. I think Osevin's massive shred spam may be unusual, he mentions that he got lucky with Clearcasting and was able to use Berserk twice. When was the last time Patchwerk lasted 5 minutes? :-) The other difference is Ferocious Bite. I've given up using it when DPSing, every time I do I find myself 20 seconds later without enough combo points to refresh Rip or Savage Roar. (I tossed one in right at the end of the fight.)
Maximizing DPS is a fun challenge, but it's still a pretty low priority for any raider. Much more important to play smart than to push the buttons optimally, an extra 10% DPS seldom matters in any raid encounter. It's just on Patchwerk there's nothing else to do but burn him down. For last night's raid I'm much more proud of my performance on Heigan, where our main tank died with him at 10% and I picked up the boss in like 2 seconds. Hero bear rawr!
