Torchlight is out. It's a $20 downloadable game by a bunch of former Blizzard North / Flagship Studios folks. It looks, sounds, and plays exactly like Diablo with modern graphics. I mean that in a good way, it's good hack-n-slash fun and the release seems quite polished. I already enjoy it more than Borderlands which I recently picked up for its rumoured Diablo-with-guns design. Borderlands is a good game too, but a bit overwrought. Torchlight's just fun. The Escapist liked it too.

I'm torn on whether or not I should buy it. It'll take away from DDO time, and I have Dragon Age preordered..... erg.

It's $20, go on, take a chance. There's very little new about the game, but so far it's well executed and a lot of fun. Well there is one nice innovation, your combat pet is pretty capable. Tell you what, if you don't like it I'll buy you four copies of Braid so you can figure out what you missed there :-)

Do you have any feel on how long Torchlight takes to complete? Despite recent failures, I'm actually really passionate about seeing games thru to the end.
